What's Cool About our School?

What's Cool About our School?

Directions: Take photographs that tell a story about our school. The goal of this assignment is to start using interesting camera angles to show what's so cool about our school.

- Each student will be given a Canon point and shoot camera.
These cameras are called "point and shoot" cameras because that's what they do: you point the camera at what you want to photograph, zoom in/out, and press a button to take the picture. This camera controls all of your focus and exposure settings. Once we get the hang of these cameras, we will move on to more advanced cameras in our media lab.

- We will break up into groups/individuals.
One group will start in the media lab. One group will start in the control room. One group will start in the TV studio. You will spend time in each room. Take at least 50 in each room during those minutes. Think about the many different angles you can photograph these rooms in.

- We will save our photos into our folders on our computer.
The Canon point and shoot cameras all have SD cards that the photos save to. AS A CLASS we will learn to remove the cards from the camera, plug them into our computers, and save them to our photo folders on our computers.

TYPES OF ANGLES TO THINK ABOUT USING:

1) Wide shot/Long shot/Full shot (showing as much of the subject as possible)

2) Close-up (showing the detail of subject)

3) Medium Shot (relative - in between a wide shot and close-up)

4) Low angle (camera pointed up)

5) High angle (camera pointed down)

Exposure Practice

Exposure Practice

This is an exercise to help you understand and practice how to make a correct exposure when shooting a photo.

Click HERE to access the Camera Simulator.

In the center of the options, click Manual.

Now adjust the Lighting, Distance, Focal Length (of your lens...remember what that is?), ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed.

When making the adjustments, be sure to look at the camera meter and be sure its lined-up to make a proper exposure.

Make 10 photos using different exposures. See if you get them all correct.

When you have finished click the link below to access the site and select other camera simulators to try.
